Biography

Alan won a Tony Award for his performance as the emcee in the Broadway revival of Cabaret. He was in a number of movies including Titus, Eyes Wide Shut, Romy and Michelle's Hish School Reunion, Spice World and Goldeneye. He made His film debut in Passing Glory while at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. In 1989 he was nominated Most Promising Newcomer at the Olivier Awards for his part in The Conquest of the South Pole. He would later win an Olivier Award for his performance in Accidental Death of an Anarchist .He has adapted a number of plays for the Royal National Theatre and has directed Bonjour La Bonjour at the Royal National Theatre Studio. He also was the co-writer and star of the cult BBC sitcom The High Life.
