Aaliyah was born on January 16, 1979 in Brooklyn, New York. Her full name is Aaliyah Dani Haughton .
Aat age 15, her first single "Back and Forth" (6/9/94 went gold) went to #1 on the Hot 100 singles chart. Her album was released on June of 94. She released another top five single called, "At Your Best (You Are Love)" (10/25/94 gold).
Her album Age Ain't Nothing But A Number went platinum on 9/01/94.
Her hit single from the Romeo Must Die soundtrack, "Try Again," garnered Aaliyah 2 Grammy nominations and the 2000 MTV awards for Best Female Video and Video From a Film.
Aaliyah had just completed filming The Queen of the Damned when she was killed in a plane crash on Saturday, August 25th, 2001, on the way to Miami from the Bahamas. The 22 year-old was in the Bahamas filming a music video.
The self-titled Aaliyah,Her third album,"Aaliyah" was released in July 2001, and debuted in the Top 5 on the Billboard magazine album chart.
