Amanda was born on January 11, 1972 in New York City. Peet an older sister. Her father, Charles is a lawer and her mother, Penny is a social worker. She attended Columbia University where she studied history. While at Columbia a drama professor convinced her to audition for acting teacher Uta Hagen. She studied with Hagen for four years during which time, she played in the off-Broadway revival of ' "Awake and Sing" . She was voted one of the 50 most beautiful people in the World in 2000 by People Magazine. Iin 1995 she was cast in a guest-starring role on the hit series "Law & Order" (1990). Her feature film debut was in the movie Animal Room (1995). She met her boyfriend Brian Van Holt on the set of an indie movie called Whipped (2000). But it was the hit comedy Whole Nine Yards (2000) that really boosted her career.
