Biography

She was born on August 30, 1972 in San Diego, California. For the majority of her youth Cameron Diaz lived in Long Beach with her father her mother and her sister. Cameron attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School where she fit in best with a crowed of skateboarders. She was the typical head-banging rocker chick of the 80s. She liked everything from Iron Maiden to Ozzy to AC/DC.Her other musical interests included Poison, Metallica and Van Halen.

Then, one night at a typical Hollywood party Jeff Dunas, a photographer, approached Cameron. He gave her his business card and told her he could set her up with Elite Modeling Agency. Over the next few days Cameron thought the offer over. She discussed it with her parents and close friends before she called Jeff. She decided to go for it and less than a week after contacting him she had landed a modeling deal with Elite. Cameron worked with them to build a portfolio and finally after a few months she got a job doing a shoot for "Teen" magazine.

At the age of sixteen Cameron had the opportunity to travel to Japan with another young model. After a little coaxing of her parents who were fairly considerate, she was on her way to Asia for six months. Cameron lived with another model that was fifteen. During the day she was devoted to agents and to photo shoots. However, by sundown she was out partying on the town. Since Cameron had no adult around to discipline her, it was easy for her to get into trouble, but she survived.

After Japan Cameron began doing photo shoots all over the world. She filmed a Coca-Cola commercial in Australia and spent a lot of time flying between the US and Europe doing a lot of modeling for magazines. Despite all of this, Cameron also found time to get her high school degree and meet and fell in love with movie producer Carlos de la Torre. Eventually she ended up moving into his Hollywood apartment. Their relationship would last for five years.

Cameron was having tons of fun with her Modeling career, but there was something missing. She did not feel she was able to express herself to her full potential. That was when her agent suggested to her that she try her hand at acting. Cameron stuck out twelve auditions before she finally got a part in the movie "The Mask" with Jim Carrey. In an interview she once said: "Acting allows me to tell a lot of stories, you know start at the beginning, finish at the end, and tell everything in between. Modelling is just an image.
