Born and raised in Philadelphia, Penn., the oldest
of five girls, Molloy remembers singing everywhere as a child - at church,
in school plays and in community theater productions. She began traveling
to New York and auditioning professionally while still in high school,
but her first priority was always experiencing a normal teenage life.
Though she was scheduled to attend New York University after graduation,
her plans changed dramatically just a day after finishing high school.
Andrew Lloyd Webber was searching for the lead of his musical Whistle
Down the Wind, and Molloy landed the role. She earned a Helen Hayes Award
nomination for Best Lead Actress in a Musical, but the show's initial
run in Washington, D.C. wasn't successful enough to warrant a run on Broadway.
Undaunted, Molloy returned to New York, waiting tables and staying with
friends while continuing to audition.
Her tenacity paid off. She made her Broadway debut in The Civil War at the St. James Theatre after earning an Outer Critics Circle nomination for her role in the same production Off-Broadway. She also played the title role in the musical version of Romeo and Juliet.
When she's not working, Molloy enjoys hiking, camping,
traveling and practicing yoga. She currently resides in Los Angeles, Calif.
