Biography

With a remarkable resemblance to Oscar and Emmy winner Helen Hunt, and a poise surprising in one so young, Leelee Sobieski has already amassed a remarkable amount of success. While most young actors and actresses are busy making photo shoot rounds, Leelee has been working...and working hard.

Sobieski was born Liliane Rudabet Gloria Elsveta Sobieski (is there any wonder she shortened it?!) on June 10th, 1982 in New York City. Her mother Jean, a native of France, is a painter and writer. She encouraged Leelee to explore the arts at a young age, and it is a tribute to her mother that Leelee also excels in painting and ceramics.

While in school, she started acting in plays and one day ran into a casting director in the school cafeteria who suggested that she try acting professionally. Talk about luck! Leelee soon began appearing in television movies and guest spots on successful television shows.

Sobieski made her feature film debut in the Disney film Jungle 2 Jungle, starring Tim Allen and Martin Short. Her co-star and love interest was played by real life friend Sam Huntington. Since then, Leelee has amassed some nice credits, including Dreamwork's Deep Impact and Stanley Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut.

Leelee also headlined the CBS miniseries Joan of Arc as the title character, and impressed everyone with how well she handled the chore - an impressive feat for any actress, never mind one who was only 15 years old.
