Biography

Varela was born on December 9, 1972 in Santiago, Chile. She is one of the few latin movie stars( likeAntonio Banderas and Penelope Cruz) who have achieved major Hollywood success. Besides her language skills, Leonor has her passion for acting and overpowering screen presence to thank.

Varela started in European TV series like Pony Trek and Inca de Oro , and the Chilean soap opera Tic Tac . She was soon playing bit parts in French films . Leonor's Hollywood debut was a brief appearance as a ballroom beauty in The Man in the Iron Mask (1998). She exploded onto the scene the following year in ABC's Cleopatra . Her gorgeous face, all done up in ancient Egyptian glamour, was splashed all over New York City, publicizing the miniseries.

After Cleopatra Varela has only done major motion pictures, both in North America and Europe. Among these were The Tailor of Panama, Texas Rangers and Blade II . while Paraiso B, Pas si grave and Tais-toi were her Chilean and French projects.
