Biography
TOUTED as the latest American ingenue, Sandra Bullock
aka " Sandy " currently corners the cute-as-a-button market,
threatening the reigning Pretty Woman's chokehold on the title with her
elementary -school-valentine appeal. She catapulted to insta-stardom with
the back-to-back successes of Speed, for which she garnered MTV Movie
Awards for most desirable female, best female performance, and best on-screen
duo (with co-star Keanu Reeves), and While You Were Sleeping. The fresh-faced
Sandra Bullock is known for her abnormal normalcy --Sandy Bullock wasn't
voted "most likely to brighten your day" in high school for
nothing --and her uncontrollable craving for junk food. Sandra readily
admits that her favorite cuisine is Kentucky Fried Chicken.
The daughter of a German opera singer (mother Helga)
and a voice coach (father John), Sandra Bullock spent her formative years
continent-hopping between her home base of Arlington, Virginia, and Vienna,
Austria. Sandra Bullock learned German and the particulars of theatre
life at an impressionable age, often appearing on-stage with her mother.
"Sandy" found plenty of parts in Hollywood, but they were limited
to such box-office bombs as When the Party's Over, The Vanishing, and
The Thing Called Love. She earned her first breakthrough role in Sylvester
Stallone's Demolition Man, replacing Lori Petty (Tank Girl), who was fired
several days into shooting. Though the movie itself misfired, producer
Joel Silver, favorably impressed with Bullock's work, recommended her
to Speed director Jan De Bont, and her price has been skyrocketing ever
since.
After the subsequent success of While You Were Sleeping, Sandra Bullock
indulged her avid interest in the online world by starring as a computer
debugger in the techno-thriller The Net, and most recently she charmed
audiences in the romantic comedy Two If by Sea. Not one to sit back on
her fast-won laurels, Bullock immediately started work on Joel Schumacher's
production of John Grisham's A Time To Kill. Sandra Bullock next plans
to star in her newly formed production company's first property, a short
she wrote and will also direct called Making Sandwiches. The project will
team her once again with her A Time To Kill co-star, Matthew McConaughey.
Sandra's next feature-length film will be In Love and War, the Richard
Attenborough W.W.I. epic love story, in which she will play a nurse to
Chris O'Donnells Ernest Hemingway.
