Biography

Benjamin Gordon (born April 4, 1983 in London, England) is an NBA basketball player, who played guard on the University of Connecticut men's basketball team. He grew up in Mount Vernon, New York. As a middle schooler, he played for the Mount Vernon Junior Knights. He attended Mount Vernon High School where he helped lead the Mount Vernon Knights to the 2000 New York State Public and Federation Championships. Gordon went on to the University of Connecticut; where he was the leading scorer for the 2004 Big East Tournament and NCAA Division I Champion Connecticut Huskies. Following that, his Junior season, Gordon declared himself eligible for the 2004 NBA Draft and was selected third overall by the Chicago Bulls. He became the first rookie in NBA history to be selected winner of the NBA Sixth Man Award. Ben has also received the NBA's East Rookie of The Month Honors 3 times (January, February, and March). Ben made the NBA All-Rookie First Team.

Currently gearing up for his second NBA season, Ben Gordon has proved that he can play on the professional level. Ben Gordon has become one of the premier clutch performers in the game, leading the league in double digit points in the fourth quarter for most of the season (including a 22 point fourth quarter performance against the Charlotte Bobcats) until Lebron James overtook him near the end of the regular season. This is even more amazing when you account for the many established clutch players in the league, such as Tracy McGrady and Reggie Miller, who have been overtaken by Gordon. In the 2004-05 season, he averaged 15.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game while only playing, on average, 24.2 minutes a game. He is the arguably one of the best offensive guards on the Bulls since Michael Jordan. Leading the Chicago Bulls to their first playoff appearance since the Jordan era ended in 1998, he is often called Mr. 4th Quarter due to his amazing performances in the final period of play. Ben has also had his struggles for all of his achievements, including turnovers (4.46 Per 48 Min, 6th in the league) and his stamina ("More than anything, I just want to come back [in the fall] in better shape". "A lot of this game is about conditioning and how long you can give your best performance")[1]. He was often noted for his foul trouble and his lack of defensive focus.
